How many grafts do I need? What can I expect after the hair transplant
I would like to start by sharing some general info about hair transplant. As you probably know, in FUE hair transplant we harvest the grafts from the back and sides of the head, which is called the donor area, to transfer to the needed areas, the front, top or crown area. The total number of grafts on the head does not change after the hair transplant. In other words, it is a simply a transfer, the harvested are taken from the back and brought to the front. The grafts that are harvested do not grow back, thus, we do not have an infinite number of grafts at the back. Therefore, it is very important to harvest carefully, without traumatizing the donor area so that the back continues to look good after the hair transplant despite the harvesting. When we receive photos, we want to see mainly three things; how strong the donor area is, how wide the recipient area is and how thick the grafts are. If the donor area is strong and the recipient area is not too wide, then there is a good match. If it is the reverse, the patient might not be eligible for hair transplant or might need two sessions (with at least 6-8 months in between).
What is PRP and how effective is it?
Platelet-rich plasma (abbreviation: PRP) is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. Although blood is mainly a liquid (called plasma), it also contains small solid components (red cells, white cells, and platelets.) The platelets are best known for their importance in clotting blood. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries.
PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets — and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors — can be 5 to 10 times greater (or richer) than usual.
To develop a PRP preparation, blood must first be drawn from a patient. The platelets are separated from other blood cells and their concentration is increased during a process called centrifugation. Then the increased concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood.
PRP therapy, which takes approximately twenty minutes to complete, begins with collection of 10 milliliters of the patient’s blood. The blood sample is placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the other components of whole blood. Doctors then inject the concentrated platelets into the site of the injury often using ultrasound guidance for accuracy. Platelets function as a natural reservoir for growth factors that are essential to repair injured tissues. The growth factors that the platelets secrete stimulate tissue recovery by increasing collagen production
Are results permanent?
Yes, the result of a hair transplant is permanent. The transplanted hair will not be lost as the grafts are transferred from a genetically resistant to hair loss area. However, the hair that you had at the time of your transplant might be lost due to genetic factors.
Aftercare instructions cannot be stressed enough. In the first two weeks the new transplanted will vulnerable and need time until they become strong. The instructions should be followed carefully.
Will results look natural?
Yes, the result will be absolutely natural. The transferred grafts will be placed at the same angle as it normally would. Our patients can style, dye, shave their transplanted hair just like their non-transplanted hair (we will be telling you exactly when you can start shaving, styling and dying your hair after hair transplant).
Does hair transplant hurt?
Hair transplant is performed under local anesthesia; you will not feel any pain during the transplant. You might have mild pain after the treatment, but this can easily be managed by pain killers. Most patients do not even need to take any pain killers after the hair transplant.
When will my transplanted hair start to grow?
The transplanted hair will start to grow after 10-12 weeks after the hair transplant, Depending on the metabolism of the patient, Approximately after 6 months, around 60% of the hair will have grown. The transplanted hair will be thin and fine at first, but will start to get thicker as time goes by. It might take up to 12-15 months after the hair transplant until all the transplanted hair grows and gets thicker.
Is there any scarring?
No, the FUE does not cause scarring and you can wear your hair very short after the procedure.
Can hair transplant be performed on women?
Definitely, but the cause of hair loss should be determined and there should be enough number of hair loss resistant grafts on the donor area.
Why do some hair transplant results look unnatural?
Grafts should be planted in the same they naturally grow, that is, at the same angle as it naturally would. In the case of unnatural results, the grafts have not been planted You will not have such a problem with an experienced team.
Will the hair transplant be performed in a hospital or clinic?
The hair transplant will be performed in its A plus private speciality hospital in which plastic surgery, FUE hair transplant and dental treatment are carried out.
Are shampoos / medication included in the package?
A large bottle of “Revigen”, which will last around 6 weeks, will be provided to the patients. All medication are provided to the patient with explanations.
What includes an aftercare session?
During the aftercare session, which takes place the day following the hair transplant, the bandage on the donor area is removed and a medical foam is applied on the area. The recipient area is checked. Washing does not take place in the aftercare session. Aftercare and washing instructions are explained in detail and questions are answered. Instructions are also sent by e-mail and patients can ask their questions during and after the aftercare session.
Is there a 24hrs service considered?
Our patients are given a phone number they can call 24 hours in cases of urgency.
Is the hair shaved?
Yes, the hair will be completely shaven before the hair transplant. The donor area needs to be shaven for extraction and the recipient area needs to be shaven for high density during transplanting. We ask our patients not to shave their hair at least a month before the hair transplant. Shaving is done at the hospital, after the consultation.
Can you offer us extra city tours? Can the patient go on a tour after the hair transplant?
Mediprima’s core business is providing medical services. On the other hand, we have partnerships with travel agencies that offer our patients all inclusive daily city tours. If you stay at our partner hotel, the reception will provide you with detailed information and also take your reservation if you should decide to take a city tour.
Patients can go on a tour if they decide to stay longer. They might also decide to take a half day tour the day after the hair transplant.
